Skin needling - how it can help you

Collagen Induction Therapy is is a procedure which often involves a trip to a specialist. However, skin needling or micro needling is a form of collagen induction therapy which can be carried out in your own house, in your own time; this smoothes out wrinkles, reduces scarring and reduces the appearence of stretchmarks.

A common factor in the development of scars, wrinkles, stretch marks and uneven skin is a lack of collagen. Micro needling stimulates collagen production in the skin, which helps prevent or reverse their formation, this can only be achieved if skin needling is carried out frequently to keep the skin healing until it has healed to an acceptable level.

Micro needling (skin needling) is a procedure carried out with a skin roller that is covered with several tiny needles. These needles puncture the outside layer of skin and gently part the pores of the skin. This method has two major advantages; it actively encourages collagen generation at the same time as allowing creams and lotions to be absorbed more easily through the top layer (epidermis) of skin. Micro needling (skin needling) creates a very minor trauma which only lasts for a short period of time and doesn't cause the skin to break or bleed in the treated area in the way that laser therapy or microdermabrasion do.

The microscopic punctures (which are often just the opening of the pores of your skin) caused by the skin needling or micro needling, stimulate collagen production in the second layer of skin and it creates a good environment for collagen and elastin formation. These key factors help the skin to cosmetically mend.

There are several alternatives to skin needling, and a lot of these require visits to a specialist. These include laser therapy and Micro-Dermabrasion. Using a Micro needling roller at home is generally much cheaper.
